Founded in 2016 by a mother who refused to let her neighbors go hungry. Today we serve thousands of refugee families across Dallas-Fort Worth.
DFW Refugee Outreach Services walks alongside refugee and immigrant families — providing not just food and resources, but genuine community. Every family deserves a fresh start with their dignity intact.
From our food pantry to ESL classes, driving lessons, and case management, every program is built around one question: what does this family need to thrive?
"We don't just provide services. We walk alongside families until they're standing on their own."
Rooted in faith and driven by compassion, we serve all people — regardless of background, language, or nationality — with equal welcome and love.
In March 2016, Zeenat Khan met a refugee mother in her Dallas neighborhood — newly arrived, no English, no network. She showed up to help.
What began as one family quickly grew. Word spread. More families came. Volunteers showed up. A vision took shape — that no refugee family in DFW should face their first months in America alone.
With no grant funding and no office, just a community willing to show up, DFW Refugee Outreach Services was born from the conviction that ordinary people can do extraordinary things together.
By 2018, we served hundreds of families a month. Volunteers came from mosques, churches, and universities across DFW — united by a shared commitment to their neighbors.
Case management, ESL classes, driving courses, and employment support had been running since our earliest years. In 2021, Hope Kitchen joined them — launched to empower refugee women, giving them independence, purpose, and a path to self-sufficiency.
Today, DFWROS serves thousands of refugee and immigrant families. We're a registered 501(c)(3) and home to hundreds of weekly volunteers. The same commitment is still at the center.
A dedicated group of staff, volunteers, and community leaders committed to serving with excellence and love.
Every person we serve is worthy of respect and humanity — regardless of status, background, or circumstance. We never reduce a family to their need.
We sit with families in hard moments, listen before we act, and let their lived experience shape every program and partnership.
"Whoever relieves a believer's distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue them from a difficulty on the Day of Judgement." — Sahih Muslim
