Founded in March 2016 by Zeenat Khan, DFWROS began as a one-on-one mentorship effort — meeting refugee families at their doors and walking with them as they built new lives in DFW.
To empower refugee and immigrant families in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex through holistic services that promote dignity, self-sufficiency, and community belonging.
A DFW where every refugee family has the support, resources, and community they need to build a thriving new life.
It started with one family who needed help. A refugee mother, newly arrived in Dallas, didn't know where to begin — no English, no network, no clear path forward. Zeenat Khan showed up.
What began as a single visit became a weekly commitment. Word spread. More families came. Volunteers showed up. One family became ten, then a hundred, then a full community of support.
Case management, ESL classes, driving courses, and employment support had been running since our earliest years. In 2021, Hope Kitchen joined them — launched to empower refugee women, giving them independence, purpose, and a path to self-sufficiency.
Today we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving over 1,000 refugee and immigrant families — rooted in faith, committed to dignity, and open to everyone.
These values are not aspirations — they are the daily commitments that shape how we work, how we listen, and how we serve.
Every person we serve is worthy of respect and humanity — regardless of status, background, or circumstance.
We sit with families in hard moments, listen before we act, and let their needs shape our work.
We are responsible to the families we serve, to our donors and partners, and to the communities that trust us. We operate with transparency and care.
Our doors are open to every family — across faith, culture, language, and nationality. We celebrate diversity and build belonging for all.
We walk alongside families on the path to self-sufficiency — offering tools, connections, and encouragement so they can lead their own flourishing lives.

Statistics reflect cumulative program data since 2016.
Organizations and institutions we've worked alongside in service of refugee families across Dallas-Fort Worth.
Behind every statistic is a person — a family with a name, a story, and a future. Here are a few of the lives you help change.
"When we first arrived, we didn't know where to find food or help. DFWROS welcomed us without questions — taught me English, helped me find a job, and my children are in school. We are building a life here."
"After everything our family went through, we needed more than food — we needed people who cared. Our case manager helped us with benefits, finding an apartment, and my son joined their after-school program. I don't have words for what that means."
"I had skills but didn't know how to present myself in America. DFWROS helped me write my resume, practice interviews, and connected me to an employer. I'm now full-time employed and volunteer here every Saturday."
